Safety

We take families onto public land and we run a community app for them. Both only work if people feel safe. This page is how you tell us when something is wrong, and what we promise to do about it.

If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 first.

Report an intimate image

If a nude or sexual photo or video of you is on our website or in our app without your consent, tell us here and we will take it down. You do not need an account, you do not need to be a member, and you do not need to explain why. This includes images that were made to look like you.

Under the federal TAKE IT DOWN Act we remove the image within 48 hours of receiving a complete request, and we make reasonable efforts to find and remove identical copies. A complete request has four parts: your name (typed, as your signature), a way to reach you, where the image is (a link, or a description of where to find it), and a short statement that you believe in good faith it was shared without consent. The form below collects exactly those. Parents, guardians, and people acting on someone's behalf can file too.

You can also use this same form for a child safety concern or anything else you think we should see.

What are you reporting?

You do not need an account to use this form. Under the federal TAKE IT DOWN Act we will remove the image within 48 hours of a complete request and make reasonable efforts to remove identical copies. A complete request needs your name, a way to reach you, enough to find the image (a link or a description of where it is), and the statement at the bottom.

Who are you in relation to the person in the image?

Paste one link per line: the web address of the post, album, profile or message. No link? Describe where it is in the box below instead; either is fine.

As much or as little as you like. Who is involved, what you saw, and anything that helps us find it quickly (for example “the Kings Canyon album, third photo”).

Only our safety team sees this. We never share it with the person you are reporting.

Prefer email? Write to safety@outdoorithmcollective.org with the same four things and we will treat it the same way.

Child safety standards

Outdoorithm Collective is a family organization. Kids are on our trips, in our photos, and part of why we exist. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation, on our trips and on our platform, and we do not wait to be told twice.

What we do

  • We prohibit it outright. Any content that sexualizes a minor, any attempt to groom or solicit a minor, and any sharing of child sexual abuse material is banned. Accounts involved are removed and the material is reported.
  • We review what is reported. Photos and captions shared into trip albums, memories and moments pass through an automated screen. Not every upload is screened, so members can report anything, screened or not. Every report, from the app or from this page, is read by a person on our safety team.
  • We report to NCMEC. When we become aware of apparent child sexual abuse material or child exploitation we report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's CyberTipline as soon as reasonably possible, and we preserve the evidence for as long as federal law requires, so that law enforcement can act.
  • We report suspected abuse. We hold our staff and regular trip volunteers to California's mandated reporter standard. A reasonable suspicion of abuse or neglect goes to child protective services or law enforcement, not into a drawer.
  • Accounts are for adults, with one exception. Children take part through their family's household. We are building a supervised teen account (ages 13 to 17) that a parent or legal guardian in the teen's household will have to set up. When it opens, teen accounts will not be findable in search or suggestions, will not be able to send or receive messages, and will stay linked to the guardian who created them.

Our named child safety contact is safety@outdoorithmcollective.org. That mailbox is read by a small, screened safety team, and reports about a child are never forwarded to the person you are reporting. We keep child safety reports confidential and we do not automatically share them with a child's parents; a trained reviewer decides what happens next.

We follow the laws that apply to us, including the federal reporting duties for online services (18 U.S.C. § 2258A), the TAKE IT DOWN Act, and California's mandated reporter law, and the child safety requirements of the Apple App Store and Google Play.

How to report inside the app

If you are a member and you see a post, photo, message, or person that should not be there, you can report it without leaving the mobile app.

In the mobile app

  1. Open the post, profile, or conversation and tap the menu.
  2. Choose Report, pick a reason (a child's safety, harassment, nudity or sexual content, threats, impersonation, or something else), and add a note if you like.
  3. You can also choose Block to stop someone from messaging you or seeing your posts.

On the website

Use the form on this page. Paste the link to the post or profile, or describe where it is, and tell us what is wrong. It reaches the same safety team.

Every report from the app and from this page becomes a ticket in our safety queue with its own deadline: 48 hours for an intimate image, 24 hours for a child safety concern, 24 hours for anything else. Each kind is worked in its own lane, so a pile of ordinary reports never delays one about a child. We do not tell the person you reported who reported them.
