We envision a world where public lands are spaces of deep belonging

Where families find healing, build generational connections, and discover collective power through immersive outdoor experiences.

Collective Group Trips

Transformative experiences that reconnect urban families to public lands

Outdoorithm Collective leads transformative group camping experiences that reconnect urban families to public lands. We empower our community with outdoor skills while co-creating safe and supportive spaces. Together, we're rewriting the narrative of who belongs in these incredible public spaces.

Our Mantras

Guiding principles that shape our community and outdoor philosophy

Leave Anyway icon

Leave Anyway

Breaking the gravitational pull of home

Perfect conditions never come. The to-do list never ends. Motion creates energy, not the other way around. Break the gravitational pull. Leave anyway.

Camp as It Comes icon

Camp as It Comes

The mess is the point

Forgot the camp stove? Rain when you expected sun? That's camping. Joy emerges from surrender, not control. We embrace whatever nature throws our way.

Nobody Solos icon

Nobody Solos

The myth of the lone adventurer

Three families converging to help with one tent in the wind—that's how we show up. We build the village. Your wins are our wins. We were never meant to do this alone.

Dirt Don't Hurt icon

Dirt Don't Hurt

The mess is the point

Small scrapes today build capable humans tomorrow. Comfort makes us fragile; challenges make us strong.

Take Up Space icon

Take Up Space

Claiming presence in places that are already yours

Eyes down, polite nods, making yourself small—that's the old habit. The new one? Engaging strangers, lingering at viewpoints, existing without apology. These public lands are equally yours. You belong here. Take up space.

Living Our Values

These mantras guide our community as we reconnect families with nature and build lasting relationships with public lands.

I grew up in Alabama, in a city made famous for turning fire hoses on women and children and bombing churches... I have had family members who were lynched and the photos were sent to us and rest in our family photo albums... The thought of sleeping, resting in a place without a locked door seemed impossible.

Outdoorithm has changed that for me and my family. During our first trip, we slept in the tent & I went to sleep to the sound of the ocean. It was the most restorative sleep I have had in years... Now, as I see my daughter climbing trees + running free through the camp with no shoes, I see a child with no fear, only joy. This is the dream each generation has had for their children.

To experience Blackness in nature is affirming. We are as varied as the trees in the forest. Each holding a story in our roots.

There are very few times as a Black man that I feel comfortable in the woods. The times I have felt that have been amongst family and friends and alongside Outdoorithm. Being able to feel safe camping changes the narrative that being in the woods is not something 'that Black people do.'

Camping with Outdoorithm was fun, easy, and very meaningful. Sally and Justin's care and appreciation for the great outdoors will inspire even the most inexperienced campers to make this a more regular practice. I loved sharing this experience with a kind and inclusive group that centered community values.

Spending time with the Outdoorithm community this weekend was a marvelous experience connecting with old and new friends, reconnecting with nature, and finding restoration of mind and body. Being in nature is a gift—and doing so with a community of fellow intrepid explorers is a treasure.

This camping trip came at the right time. It gave me a chance to breathe, to let go a little. I spent time connecting with my kiddos, watched the sunset with my husband, watched the kids run around. My grief still exists, but it feels a bit lighter and softened by memories of the beach day, campfire chats with my dear friend, and cheering on the tree climbers.

I forget how much good it does me to go out to nature. I get stressed and try to destress using tech or distracting myself. I was reminded that spending time in nature has this way of erasing so much stress. And the connection I felt with other families was also a blessing. Knowing that we were doing the chores together and also watching over each others kids is a huge relief.

This experience has inspired me to go deeper into community with others and to lean into and grow from the challenges that arise from doing life with others both in nature and in our day to day lives.

I loved the feeling of being amongst truly kindhearted people. Regardless of whatever else people may or may not have in common, I think that an environment with hearts that share true kindness and similar desire to be open and present with others makes for a safe and comfortable space.
